Matcha has been proven, time and time again, to be versatile whole food ingredient that can be used not only to make flavorful beverages but also delectable desserts and tasty dishes. Dubbed as one of the super foods of today for its copious health benefits including cancer-fighting, metabolic-enhancing and mood-boosting properties, matcha is steadily gaining popularity in the food and beverage market in various major cities in the world. Many talented and enterprising chefs, food technicians, restaurateurs, mixologists, bakers, and even home cooks today are increasingly incorporating the pulverized green tea leaves in their various culinary and cocktail creations.

I have scoured the Internet for some of the most great looking, certainly delicious and relatively doable matcha-infused dessert recipes that we can whip up in our own respective kitchens. I was delighted to find a lot of recipes that were willingly shared to the netizens of the world by the talented individuals who made them. Many authors are even so gracious to painstakingly include step-by-step photos or even video clips to make it easier for us amateur bakers to follow.

If you like super creamy yet light and fresh dessert with a hint of matcha, then you will certainly enjoy this creation by Heather Baird. This dessert offers a symphony of flavors ranging from the matcha’s umami taste, to the sweetness and creaminess of the cream to the pleasant tartness of the raspberries.

Besides the standard appliances in your home like a refrigerator, freezer and microwave oven, you will need a few basic baker’s equipment and implements to follow her recipe such as an electric mixer, 3” pastry rings, baking sheet, acetate film and parchment paper. For the ingredients, besides having a good quality matcha powder (café grade or culinary grade), you will also need round tea biscuits, fresh raspberries, heavy whipping cream, confectioner’s sugar and Pocky sticks.

As a bona fide cheesecake-lover and matcha fan, I was drawn in by Kara Lydon’s recipe. Add the words ‘No Bake’ and I was completely sold. This mini dessert can be an instant hit in any parties, particularly those attended by health-conscious individuals. Other than the antioxidant-rich matcha powder, it likewise contains low-fat Greek yogurt, walnuts and dates. Talk about power food combination.

To follow Kara’s recipe you only need a few baker’s implements such as cupcake trays, cupcake liners, mixing bowls and spoons. As for the appliances, you need a food processor, a mixer and your home refrigerator and freezer.

Ever heard of green chocolates? At first, it sounds like something only a character of one of Dr. Seus’ books would do. But since matcha entered the mainstream market, we have seen and tasted green chocolate creations made by world famous brands such as Kitkat, Royce and Melty Kiss. Now, we have a truly nifty recipe invented by Kamiko Chen that will not only delight our palates but also our disposition. It is due to the fact that both chocolate and matcha are ‘feel good’ food, and savoring their contrasting yet complementary flavors in one delicious bite will temporarily melt our troubles away.

According to the recipe, you only need half an hour for the preparation and cooking to make 36 pieces of green tea chocolates. Besides 2 tbsp. of matcha powder (café grade or culinary grade) for the mix and for dusting, you will just need three other ingredients, namely white chocolate, heavy whipping cream and unsalted butter. As for the tools, you just need an 8” x 8” baking dish with parchment paper lining and other tools and equipment that you usually find in the kitchen.
